Another defeat to nieghbour Man City this season. While Man Utd remembered those who lost their lives 50 years ago in the Munich air disaster, the blue half of the city dealt a major blow to red dreams of retaining the Premier League by running out 2-1 victors.
Man Utd was never their selves in that game. The normal fluid passes and mesmerizing football was not seen instead some slopy passes and too much individual skills was very clear during the first half of the game. Rio was not his best either and left vidic to cover for his mistake much of the time. The absent of Rooney and Evra was significant. Man Utd lack the penetration on the left side as well as up front. Altough O'shea did well to cover the left side but he lacks the daunting run and pin point crossing.
Man City was 2-0 up half way through the first half. Van Der Sar did all he could to stop the first goal but surely after stopping two point blank attempt from Man City, the third shot was too much to ask. The second goal left him helpless. The ball sailed passed him to the right corner with Van Der Sarr diving in vain.
In the second half Man Utd was more of thier normal selves. Scholes with superb passes set Tevez for a half volley shot that was equally saved by City's keeper. Nothing much can be said of Ronaldo in the game. He was heavily marked on the left, right and center. Hamman played a vital role in stopping Man utd from the midfield together with Fernandes and Stephen Ireland.
Coming into the one hour mark, Sir Alex was desperate for more attacking game. He brought in Park for Nani and later Carrick and Hargreves for O'shea and Anderson who seem to be running out of steam. Switching to 3-5-2 seem to put more bite to Utd attack but City defender and keeper on form, defeat looks adamant. Man Utd managed to pull one goal through Micheal Carrick in injury time but it was too late.
